What is Children’s Worship?
Children’s Worship is time during the weekly sermon for children to experience the teaching of the gospel in a communal, developmentally appropriate, progressive setting.
Each week children will begin to worship with the entire church community. Then, just before the sermon, students will leave the larger community to continue their worship in a more child-friendly setting under the supervision of their teachers.
In this smaller community, children work together to learn about the richness of God’s word.
Children explore gospel themes through creative play, drama, sculpture, and relationships with peers and teachers.
At the heart of Children’s Worship is the belief that God loves each child.
Our Teacher…
Becca Brasser has had many rich experiences working with children in urban settings in Michigan, Illinois, and New Jersey. She currently teaches first grade at the Mustard Seed School. Becca loves planning and leading worship, and is extremely excited to work and worship with the children and families at Grace. Becca also coordinates the Children's Worship volunteer leaders and organizes the Youth Group.
How Will We Worship?
On most Sundays, we will follow this rhythm as we worship in the Parish Hall:
Lighting the Christ Candle
Worship songs
Stories told or dramatized
Reflective play time
Sharing time
Prayers and Offerings given
On the 3rd and 5th Sundays of each month, we stay in the sanctuary for a silent reflective play time in our "Soft Space"--a designated area in the sanctuary where children can respond to what they see and hear. Various silent materials such as modeling clay, soft blocks, collage materials, and wire sculpture materials are available for the children to use.
What will we explore?
Besides celebrating important days and seasons in the church year our weekly worship times will focus on stories from the Bible. Children will be encouraged to ask and search for answers to their own questions about God. We use a storytelling style that encourages multi-sensory experiences of Bible stories.
